Feel the power!!

It’s been a hot minute since we shared an update. Much of what’s happened these past several months is not especially exciting—we continue to demo as much as we can, usually in small spurts. At this point, the drywall is almost entirely removed along with about half of the windows. The back corner of the house is a complete mess, slumping to the point where we know it will not survive another wet winter. If we do not “cut out the cancer”, it will collapse and almost surely take a large chunk of the house with it. So, tackling that has been moved up on the list of priorities…

The back corner of the house is starting to collapse, and needs to be cut out ASAP.

In the mean time, PG&E kept its promise and came out to the house in March to energize the property!! We now have three outlets—two 120V and one 240V— in a temporary setup, which will be converted to permanent once the remodel is compete. Having power on the property will be such a game-changer once we start the remodel in earnest.

Flipping the switch was quite fun!

Easily the most exciting thing for me was pluging in our EV and successfuly charging it! This is significant as it will give us enough energy to traverse the back country roads all the way to the coast, which for the past 2 years we’ve not been able to do.

Next steps: Bob, The Permit Guy, is submitting for our cespool to septic conversion and remodel permits! He and I will work together to draft the remodel plans from how the house is currently laid out. I won’t be changing much more than moving a few doors and windows, but house design is one of the most exciting parts for me, esp when a 3D rendering is included.

I know some of you think we’re completely nuts for taking on such a project, and you’re not wrong! But when we pull up to this view, and witness the sweet moments between our daughters spending time in nature, we know it’ll be worth it—and we get to share it with all of you!
